I was born in India, where I grew up until I immigrated to the United States for my residency training. I completed my training in Family Medicine. During my training, I worked at an Integrated Primary Care practice which gave me significant experience treating people with mental health issues. My experiences working with patients made me realize that medications have their limitations, and most often such treatments combined with individual therapy offered far better outcomes. I became interested in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. These evidence-based therapeutic techniques allowed me a much broader scope of treatment that I could offer to those struggling with various types of mental health issues. I am a Psychoanalyst in-training at the Psychoanalytic Center of the Carolinas.
My experiences of living in two countries with different socio-cultural backgrounds offered me a unique perspective into understanding the similarities and differences of mental health issues experienced by many people irrespective of where they are from. Why do we struggle to feel content? Why can’t we seem to escape the repetitive patterns of self-sabotaging behaviors? Why do we keep having those anxious or depressing thoughts? These are just a few examples.
In therapy, you will have a safe space to talk through your thoughts and freely express whatever it is that’s troubling you. Your symptoms are part of a pattern that need to be understood to know what really is going on in the backdrop of your mind. I hope to guide you to better understand yourself and how your past experiences are affecting who you are, now.
Life isn’t easy, but you don’t have to do it alone.
